Trigeminal Neuralgia & Facial Pain

Trigeminal Neuralgia is a condition characterized by intense, sharp, and sudden facial pain, usually on one side of the face. It occurs when the trigeminal nerve, which carries sensations from the face to the brain, becomes irritated or compressed. The pain is often triggered by activities like chewing, talking, or even a gentle breeze. Trigeminal neuralgia is sometimes referred to as one of the most painful conditions, with episodes lasting from a few seconds to a few minutes.

Facial pain, more broadly, can result from a variety of conditions, including dental issues, sinus problems, or temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. It can be constant or intermittent and can affect any part of the face. In some cases, facial pain may also stem from nerve damage or inflammation, like in trigeminal neuralgia.

Treatment for trigeminal neuralgia often involves medication to manage pain and prevent attacks.

For facial pain caused by conditions like TMJ dysfunction, chiropractic care may be beneficial in realigning the spine, reducing nerve compression, and improving jaw function, which can alleviate pain. Additionally, physical therapy and dental interventions might be used depending on the underlying cause of the pain.

“Doctor Sooley and his staff are amazing. I have been seeing them 5 years now. I can't say enough about how much they have helped me. I was having a lot of different issues. After seeing 12 doctors with no results, my new health care provider, who found a problem with my neck sent me here. He said, and I quote "I want you to go see Dr Sooley. He has this little gun looking thing that has helped a lot of people". So I went, and here we are 5 years later and I'm much, much better because of it. Give them a try. You won't be disappointed.”
